BRUSSELS, Sept 16 (Bernama-Anadolu) -- A planned nighttime strike by air traffic controllers at Belgium's Charleroi Airport is expected to disrupt 832 flights and affect up to 300,000 passengers, authorities said Tuesday, Anadolu Ajansi (AA) reported.
The strike, announced by an air traffic controllers' union, is scheduled to take place for 24 nights from Sept 16 through Oct 10, according to French-language broadcaster RTBF.
Belgian air navigation services provider Skeyes said the industrial action is expected to affect 832 flight movements, including 487 morning flights and 345 night flights.
“At this stage, it is not yet possible to fully assess the additional impact of these actions on the rotation schedules of the airlines concerned.
“When aircraft cannot return to Charleroi overnight, this can also have consequences for the first flights they are scheduled to operate from Charleroi the following morning,” said Skeyes.
Walloon Minister for Airports Cecile Neven said the action could “directly impact Charleroi Airport, its partners, and up to 300,000 passengers.”
The airport said the strike could affect up to 300,000 passengers, or slightly more than 5,500 passengers per day.
