KOTA BHARU, Sept 10 (Bernama) -- The Tengku Mahkota of Kelantan Tengku Muhammad Fakhry Petra today declared the Pohon Pitis as a Kelantan Heritage at a ceremony held at Istana Balai Besar here.
The Pohon Pitis, literally meaning ‘Coin Tree’, refers to the traditional cast structure from which individual pitis coins were separated for use in local markets.
His Highness also officiated the 2026 Kelantan Heritage Weapons Festival, which was attended by more than 300 guests, before touring the exhibition accompanied by Kelantan Mufti Datuk Mohamad Shukri Mohamad and several state executive councillors.
The festival features various traditional weapons, pitis (traditional tin coins) and other Kelantan heritage treasures.
It is expected to attract 50,000 visitors this year, compared with 42,000 last year and has the potential to draw more foreign tourists, particularly from Indonesia. This follows the introduction of direct Jakarta-Kota Bharu flights, supported by upgraded facilities at Sultan Ismail Petra Airport.
