KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 7 (Bernama) -- Leading e-commerce platform Shopee made its National Day parade debut on Aug 31, with its contingent celebrating local entrepreneurs, digital content creators and employees who contribute to Malaysia’s digital economy.
In a statement, Shopee said the contingent embodied the spirit of ‘Shopee Juara Lokal’ through the Shopee Merdeka campaign, which highlights the contributions of local entrepreneurs and the community that has grown alongside the platform.
The contingent was led by entrepreneur Datuk Seri Aliff Syukri Kamarzaman, while content creator Muhammad Noor Zakaria, better known as MadNor, carried the flag. It also comprised 45 employees from various departments.
“Shopee’s participation in the National Day parade for the first time was not merely a celebration of patriotism, but also an appreciation of local entrepreneurs and the community that has grown together with Shopee throughout its journey in Malaysia,” the statement said.
Meanwhile, Shopee Malaysia Public Policy and External Affairs head Nik Emir Nik Din said the inaugural participation provided an opportunity to celebrate the community and recognise the entrepreneurial spirit of Malaysians.
He said Shopee would continue supporting local entrepreneurs in strengthening their capabilities, reaching more customers and pursuing their aspirations.
“Their success not only contributes to the growth of the digital economy but also has an impact on the communities and livelihoods around them,” he said.
Aliff Syukri, who is also founder of health and beauty brand D’Herbs, said marching in the parade brought participants together as Malaysians, regardless of their positions or backgrounds.
“Until now, I have only had the opportunity to watch the parade as a spectator. So, finally being able to experience it myself was truly a very special experience,” he said.
For MadNor, the experience was an unexpected milestone in his digital and content creation journey.
“Marching alongside other Malaysians in the Shopee contingent made me feel as though I was representing everyone who dares to try, believes in themselves and dares to pursue bigger dreams. To me, that is Malaysia - ordinary people who are capable of doing extraordinary things,” he said.
Shopee employee Thines Kumar described marching alongside his colleagues and other Malaysians as an unforgettable experience.
Delphinie Chan, who helped coordinate the contingent, said the efforts and hard work of everyone involved made the parade experience particularly inspiring.
Another participant, Zulaikha Zainul, said taking part in the parade fulfilled her long-held wish to be part of the National Day celebrations.
“I have wanted to take part in the Merdeka Parade for a long time. This was an opportunity for me to finally be part of the celebration. It was truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience and a special way for me to embrace the spirit of Merdeka,” she said.
