Swimmer Muhammad Dhuha Storms To Gold, Breaks SUKIPT Record

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 4 (Bernama) -- National swimmer Muhammad Dhuha Zulfikry set a meet record en route to presenting hosts Universiti Malaya (UM) with a gold medal on the second day of the swimming competition at the 2026 Higher Education Institutions Sports Games (SUKIPT) here today.

The 18-year-old clocked 8 minutes 21.31 seconds (s) to win the men’s 800 metres (m) freestyle gold medal at the UM Swimming Pool, breaking the previous SUKIPT record of 8:25.37s set by Yeap Zheng Yang at the previous edition.

UCSI University’s Teo Zun Jet (9:09.02s) and University of Nottingham Malaysia’s Jonas Lau (9:16.26s) settled for silver and bronze respectively.

“My performance today was quite satisfying. I think my 800m swim was about three seconds faster than my time at the Malaysia Games (SUKMA), so I am quite pleased with today’s result,” he said.

Muhammad Dhuha hopes to maintain the positive momentum and contribute another medal for UM in the 400m freestyle tomorrow.
