KOTA BHARU, Sept 4 (Bernama) -- Two cyclists were killed after they were allegedly hit from behind by a Perodua Kelisa at KM18 of the Kota Bharu-Ketereh Highway here at about 8.30 am today.
Kelantan police chief Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mamat, when contacted, confirmed the incident and said police would conduct further investigations.
“The victims were identified as Zamrie Rismawadi Mahmet and Nik Zaki Yamani Nik Abdul Aziz, both aged 49,” he said.
He also urged members of the public with dashcam footage of the incident to hand them over to police to assist investigations.
Both victims died at the scene from serious injuries, and their remains were taken to the Forensic Unit of Raja Perempuan Zainab II Hospital for post-mortem.
Meanwhile, Zamrie’s brother, Zamrie Isman, 52, said he learned about the accident at 10.30 am today, adding that he had just returned to Kelantan from Selangor hoping to meet the deceased.
He said the deceased had been passionate about cycling since his teenage years and had told him that he was planning to cycle to Thailand with his friends next week.
“I never imagined that on this return, I would not get the chance to meet him. The deceased had no children although he had been married before. His remains will be buried at Kampung Rupek here tonight,” he said.
Nik Zaki’s wife, Munirah Mohd Yusof, 40, said she had never imagined such an incident would happen to her husband as cycling with friends had long been part of his routine, especially during public holidays.
She said her husband’s remains were expected to be buried at Kampung Kubang Bemban after the Isyak prayers tonight, once the post-mortem and other procedures had been completed.
