PUTRAJAYA, Sept 3 (Bernama) -- The Ministry of Energy Transition and Water Transformation (PETRA) is supporting Tenaga Nasional Bhd’s (TNB) Geng Bijak Tenaga Campaign, an initiative to help consumers better understand their electricity bills and usage patterns while encouraging smarter and more efficient energy consumption.
Under the campaign, eligible TNB domestic customers are encouraged to monitor and maintain their electricity consumption at 600 kilowatt-hours (kWh) or below for October and November 2026. The initiative aims to help consumers better understand their household electricity usage and identify ways to improve energy efficiency.
“To encourage participation and changes in energy consumption habits, the campaign offers total incentives worth RM200,000 to 2,000 domestic customers who meet the specified terms, conditions and criteria. Each selected customer will receive a Touch ’n Go Reload PIN worth RM100,” PETRA said in a statement after the campaign launch.
The campaign was launched earlier today by PETRA deputy minister Datuk Seri Abdul Rahman Mohamad during an engagement session with ministry staff here today.
Meanwhile, PETRA said TNB would assess and verify participants’ electricity consumption for October and November before announcing the 2,000 recipients who meet the campaign criteria in December.
Among the selection criteria are maintaining electricity consumption of 600 kWh and below for two consecutive months, having an active TNB account for at least 12 months, and recording the highest percentage reduction in electricity usage based on a comparison between the average consumption during the campaign period and the average consumption in the previous two months.
PETRA said the campaign also focuses on education through sharing information and reminders on energy consumption habits to help the public develop more efficient practices in their daily lives.
“Using energy wisely does not mean sacrificing comfort, but rather avoiding wastage and using electricity according to needs.
“Such practices not only benefit consumers but also contribute to more responsible use of the country’s energy resources for collective well-being,” it said.
PETRA said the campaign was part of the government’s efforts to raise public awareness on the importance of energy efficiency as the country continues to face challenges from global energy supply issues that are putting pressure on energy costs.
Registration for the campaign opens on Sept 10, 2026, for eligible TNB domestic customers.
More information on participation requirements and registration can be obtained from the official Geng Bijak Tenaga website at www.gengbijaktenaga.my.
