Malaysia Contributes US$150,000 To Venezuela Earthquake Relief Efforts

PUTRAJAYA, Sept 2 (Bernama) – Malaysia has contributed US$150,000 to Venezuela to support relief and recovery efforts following the devastating earthquake that struck the country on June 24.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Foreign Ministry said Deputy Secretary-General (Bilateral Affairs) Datuk Syed Mohamad Hasrin Tengku Hussin presented the cheque to Venezuelan Ambassador to Malaysia Radamés Jesús Gómez Azuaje at the ministry here.

It said the contribution reflected Malaysia’s solidarity and unwavering support for the Venezuelan government and people during this challenging period.

“Malaysia stands in solidarity with the government and people of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela and reaffirms its commitment to supporting international humanitarian efforts in the spirit of international cooperation,” it said.

During the ceremony, Syed Mohamad Hasrin conveyed Malaysia’s deepest sympathies and condolences, particularly to families who lost their loved ones and all those affected by the disaster.

He also reaffirmed Malaysia’s commitment to international humanitarian assistance and expressed hope that the contribution would support ongoing relief, recovery and reconstruction efforts in the affected areas.
