LONDON, Sept 2 (Bernama-Anadolu) -- London Mayor Sadiq Khan was convicted and fined for failing to tax a 24-year-old car, Anadolu Ajansi reported, citing media reports on Wednesday.

Khan, 55, was found guilty by a court last month of keeping an unlicensed vehicle, a Nissan Micra, in a criminal prosecution brought by the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA), BBC reported.

According to court documents, letters addressed to the mayor about the unpaid tax bill were sent to British celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay's east London restaurant, instead of the nearby offices of Transport for London (TfL), a local government body responsible for most of the transport network in the capital.

City Hall officials said the car did not belong to the mayor or TfL.

Khan, during a sitting in a private hearing of the Single Justice Procedure in Herefordshire, was convicted in his absence and was ordered to pay a £220 (US$297) fine, £85 (US$114) in costs and settle the £35.84 (US$48.43) bill for unpaid tax on the Micra.

Citing legal documents, the report said Khan was prosecuted after the annual tax on the car, which was first registered 24 years ago, ran out in September 2025.
