KANGAR, Sept 2 (Bernama) -- Research findings should not merely remain confined to reports, journals, or academic publications, instead, the knowledge and discoveries generated must be translated into practical solutions to address real-world challenges.
The Raja Muda of Perlis, Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Jamalullail, said research is a key catalyst for national progress and development, benefiting society while contributing to environmental preservation.
“As we continue to explore new frontiers in science and technology, we must ensure that every advancement takes into account the interests of the environment and future generations.
“True progress is not measured merely by how far we can advance, but by the extent to which we can create meaningful change whose benefits can continue to be felt by future generations,” he said in a statement issued by Istana Arau today.
According to the statement, Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra, in his capacity as Chancellor of Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP), said this when opening the Global Trends in Engineering and Science Technology Congress (GTEST) 2026 in Penang yesterday.
Meanwhile, the Raja Muda of Perlis expressed his appreciation to all parties committed to shaping UniMAP graduates who are not only knowledgeable and highly skilled, but also capable of leading and contributing to the nation's future development.
According to the statement, the international congress organised by UniMAP serves as an important platform for bringing together academics, researchers, engineers and industry experts from around the world to exchange knowledge, explore the latest developments, and strengthen collaborative networks in the fields of engineering, science and technology.
The organisation of GTEST 2026 further strengthens international ties through a strategic collaboration with the Tokyo University of Science (TUS), Japan, while also incorporating several prestigious conferences, including the Western Belt Electronics Technology Conference (WESTAC) 2026, IQ-SITE 2026 and IC-BUSCLi 2026.
At the event, Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra also witnessed the exchange of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) between UniMAP and its strategic partners from the industrial and academic sectors.
The collaborations reflect UniMAP’s continued commitment to expanding its strategic industry network, strengthening its research ecosystem, and ensuring that the university’s expertise and innovations are more widely utilised.
His Royal Highness also witnessed the presentation of research grant cheques from industry partners to UniMAP in support of efforts to strengthen the university's research and development activities.
“This initiative not only paves the way for the development of research-based solutions but also strengthens collaboration between higher education institutions and industry in addressing current needs and challenges,” the statement said.
