IPOH, Sept 2 (Bernama) -- Police have arrested another suspect in a robbery case that led to the death of an elderly man in Teluk Intan on April 17.
In a statement last night, Hilir Perak police chief ACP Chua Kok Lian said the 26-year-old man was detained on Aug 26 in Klang, Selangor, during the Ops Kesan/Wanted.
He said the arrest was the result of sustained efforts to track down and bring to justice individuals believed to be involved in the case, which resulted in the death of the 69-year-old victim.
Earlier, the suspect’s four accomplices had been arrested and charged in court on May 7, 2026, under Section 302 of the Penal Code, read together with Section 34 of the same Code.
"Following further investigations, the case was referred to the Deputy Public Prosecutor, and instructions have been received for the suspect to be also charged under the same law," he said.
"The suspect, who is currently in remand, will be brought before the Teluk Intan Magistrate's Court on Sept 2 to face the charge," he said.
He urged members of the public with any information related to criminal activities to come forward and share it with the police, to assist in efforts to maintain public safety and order, particularly in the Hilir Perak district.
On April 17, the media reported that an elderly man had died after being slashed with a machete during a gang robbery at a residence in Pekan Baru, Teluk Intan.
Chua had previously said the victim sustained severe injuries to his right hand and left palm, and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Subsequently, on May 7, four men were charged at the Teluk Intan Magistrate's Court with the murder of the elderly man using a sharp weapon.
