SERDANG, Aug 29 (Bernama) -- A total of 779 myAgropreneur Fisheries (myAP) entrepreneurs have registered with the Department of Fisheries Malaysia (DOF) to date this year, with 34 per cent of them having successfully progressed to Small and Medium Enterprise (SME) levels 3 and 4.
Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security (KPKM) deputy secretary-general (Policy) Datuk Seri Norazman Ayob said the achievement involved annual production values ranging from RM150,000 to RM1 million.
He said the growth was supported by the establishment of 253 myCommunity Fisheries (myKP), involving 6,500 members of fishing communities nationwide.
“The government has always believed that the success of an industry does not depend solely on the wealth of resources it possesses, but also on how effectively we can create value from those resources.
“Therefore, the government remains committed to empowering fisheries entrepreneurs through a value-creation process encompassing guidance, product improvement, branding and market access,” he said.
Norazman said this at the launch of the 2026 myAP and myKP national carnival, held in conjunction with the Malaysia Agriculture, Horticulture and Agrotourism Exhibition (MAHA) 2026 at the Malaysia Agro Exposition Park Serdang (MAEPS) here, themed ‘Value Creation for Food Security’.
He said the myAP programme was a continuation of programmes held in the Eastern and Southern Zones, which previously brought together 40 entrepreneurs under the department’s guidance.
In conjunction with the event, 10 selected myAP and myKP entrepreneurs who have achieved SME Level 3 and above showcased various downstream products and fisheries innovations to expand their business networks.
Meanwhile, DOF also launched innovative products developed by the Fisheries Technology Extension Centres (PPTP) during the 12th Malaysia Plan (12MP), which were successfully commercialised by entrepreneurs.
Norazman said DOF had allocated RM578,519 under the 12MP and RM80,000 under Rolling Plan 1 (RP1) of the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP) to support technology transfer through seven PPTPs nationwide.
In addition, DOF presented mock cheques for the 2026 Fisheries Delivery and Extension Service System (SpeKS) assistance totalling RM1.12 million to 43 myAP recipients and 11 myKP recipients.
Also distributed was Touch Point 2026 assistance worth RM348,336, benefiting 38 myAP recipients, 125 myKP recipients, 34 fisheries network heads (KJP), 113 inland fishermen and 109 marine fishermen.
