KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 25 (Bernama) -- The immense contributions and services of the late Abdul Wahab Alwi in inspiring the establishment of MARA Junior Science Colleges (MRSM) will remain etched in the nation's educational history, says Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
He said the former MARA Training Division director was among the key figures behind the conceptualisation and establishment of MRSM.
"From an idea championed with full dedication, an institution was born that continues to open up educational opportunities and shape the future of our children to this day," he said in a Facebook post tonight.
Abdul Wahab passed away at 3 am today at the age of 84.
Elaborating further, Ahmad Zahid said Abdul Wahab and his team had prepared the proposal paper and worked to secure support until the establishment of MRSM was approved in 1970.
He said Abdul Wahab subsequently played a role in selecting the teaching staff and principal for MRSM Seremban, the country's first MRSM, in 1972.
Ahmad Zahid also expressed his condolences to Abdul Wahab’s family, wishing them strength and fortitude in facing their loss.
