KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 23 (Bernama) -- Malaysia's under-16 women's football team clinched third place at the Srikandi Merdeka Cup 2026 with a 4-0 win over Jordan in the play-off today.
In the match held at the Super Soccer Arena in Kudus, Indonesia, Malaysia got an early break in the second minute when Jordanian player Eman Muhannad Mahmoud Altmaizi turned the ball into her own net.
The squad, coached by Fairuz Montana Zainal Abidin, doubled their lead in the 40th minute when Lim You slotted past the Jordan goalkeeper following a pass from team captain Keisha Adeliena Muhammad Khalid.
Moving into the second half, Malaysia extended their lead to 3-0 by converting a penalty awarded in the 50th minute.
Keisha Adeliena stepped up to take the spot-kick after being brought down inside the box by Jordan's Ragad Rafat Harbi Haqrous a minute earlier.
Malaysia further widened the margin when Isabella Saffiya O Luanaigh calmly slotted the ball home after connecting with a cross from Keisha Adeliena in the 94th minute, sealing a 4-0 victory at the final whistle.
Malaysia was in the third-place play-off following a 1-5 defeat to Thailand in Friday's semi-final.
