MELAKA, Aug 15 (Bernama) -- Artificial intelligence (AI) governance and ethics are important to ensure the technology is used for beneficial and positive purposes, while preventing its misuse by certain parties.
Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) Senior Vice-President (Corporate Affairs/Digital Industry Development) Datuk Fadzli Abdul Wahit said these aspects needed to be incorporated into the AI learning ecosystem to ensure the technology was used professionally and responsibly.
“Many people can use AI, but at the same time, we do not want people to misuse AI. They need to be professional. So governance and ethics are aspects of AI that we need to teach to prevent misuse. AI should be used for the benefit and good of future technology,” he told reporters here today after the Malaysia Digital Tour programme officiated by Deputy Higher Education Minister Adam Adli Abdul Halim.
Meanwhile, Fadzli said MDEC was working with digital platform partners, including TikTok, to ensure such platforms were not misused for inappropriate sales activities.
TikTok had specific standards and methods to identify sales activities on its platform, thereby playing the role of a “gatekeeper”, he added.
“It must have certain standards and methods, and must not allow existing platforms to be misused to sell inappropriate things. So, it acts like a gatekeeper,” he said.
Fadzli also said JMD had identified five locations for the programme, with Damansara Damai being the first location last week, followed by Melaka today, while the remaining three locations would be determined later.
He said the programme had received encouraging participation from entrepreneurs, students and freelancers seeking to learn about the latest technologies, including AI, to support businesses, learning and the empowerment of micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs).
“The initiative also supports the target of increasing the digital economy's contribution to 30 per cent of Gross Domestic Product (GDP) by 2030, compared with 25 per cent currently.
“To achieve this target, the Digital Ministry is strengthening digital platforms in terms of infrastructure, talent, capabilities and knowledge through various skills enhancement programmes,” he said.
He urged entrepreneurs to continuously upgrade their skills and leverage existing technologies to expand their businesses.
