KUANTAN, Aug 14 (Bernama) -- The Sultan of Pahang, Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah, has ordered all local authorities (PBTs) in the state to conduct inspections and assessments of the condition of large and old trees, particularly those that could pose a danger to public safety.
Al-Sultan Abdullah said the measures should be carried out comprehensively and regularly to identify trees that are in a potentially hazardous condition, especially in public areas, along roadsides, residential areas and locations frequently used by the public.
His Royal Highness stressed that if inspections found any trees that could pose a danger, the relevant PBTs must take immediate follow-up action to prevent any untoward incidents.
“All PBTs need to assess the condition of large and old trees. If they are deemed capable of posing a danger, follow-up action must be taken.
“Do not wait until an untoward incident occurs, especially one that could threaten the safety and lives of the people,” His Royal Highness said in a statement posted on the Pahang Sultanate Facebook page.
Al-Sultan Abdullah said this out of concern for public safety following recent incidents involving fallen trees that resulted in deaths and injuries to members of the public.
The Ruler expressed hope that proactive inspections and maintenance could be carried out effectively by all PBTs to ensure public safety remains a priority.
The measures are also important to ensure that any risks can be identified early and preventive action taken before incidents occur that could result in loss of life, injuries or damage to property.
