SUKMA 2026: N. Sembilan Targets 25 Gold Medals
Pengerusi Jawatankuasa Bertindak Belia dan Sukan negeri Negeri Sembilan, Datuk Mustapha Nagoor.

SEREMBAN, Aug 14 (Bernama) -- The 554-strong Negeri Sembilan contingent is targeting 25 gold medals at the 2026 Selangor Malaysia Games (SUKMA), said state executive councillor Datuk Mustapha Nagoor.

Mustapha, who heads the youth and sports portfolio, said the sports targeted to contribute gold medals are aquatics, polo, cycling, chess, e-sports, gymnastics, golf, karate, shooting, athletics, rugby, sepak takraw, taekwondo, boxing and wushu.

“The target is higher than the 19 gold medals won at the Sarawak SUKMA two years ago. All sports associations and coaches have made more thorough preparations than before, so the chances of winning medals should also be better than two years ago,” he told reporters here today.

Mustapha said the state government would also provide incentives to athletes who win medals, and the amount would be decided after the Games based on the contingent’s overall performance.

He said the state contingent would compete in 35 sports, skipping judo and archery this time as it did not have any qualified athletes.

At the 2024 Sarawak SUKMA, Negeri Sembilan won 56 medals — 19 gold, 13 silver and 24 bronze.
