MELAKA, Aug 13 (Bernama) -- PKR must have the courage to reflect on its performance following recent state elections instead of blaming voters for its defeats, Angkatan Muda Keadilan (AMK) chief Muhammad Kamil Ahmad Munim said.
He said while election victories boosted confidence, defeats should instead provide an opportunity for the party to reflect and address its weaknesses, while identifying the reasons for some people remain unconvinced by the party.
“The results of the (several) recent state elections must be viewed with courage. Do not blame the people at all. Do not be angry with voters for not choosing us.
“The people do not owe any party their votes; we are the ones who owe the people an explanation,” he said in his policy speech at the AMK National Congress at the Melaka International Trade Centre (MITC) in Ayer Keroh here today.
Muhammad Kamil said PKR needed to provide better answers to narratives by certain quarters seeking to create concern among voters by playing on issues of the Malays and Islam being under threat under Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s leadership.
He said failure to address public concerns would allow others to fill the void with narratives based on fear and suspicion, requiring PKR to offer a “politics of confidence” that ensures Malay interests and Islam’s position remain protected within a framework of a fair and diverse Malaysia.
“We have a duty to provide better answers to these concerns because if we leave that space empty, others will fill it with fear.
“If we do not provide confidence, others will sell it through suspicion. Therefore, we must offer something greater, namely a politics of confidence,” he added.
