CHERAS, Aug 9 (Bernama) -- Malaysian racer Putera Adam Halim Muazzam is using the IAME Series Asia 2026 as a warm-up ahead of his participation in the Lamborghini Super Trofeo Asia in Shanghai next September.

The 20-year-old described go-karting as one of the best ways to maintain the fitness level required for racing, as driving a go-kart was more physically demanding than driving other types of racing cars.

"I came back to this race to build up my fitness. I feel that go-karting is more tiring than driving a car and is good preparation before the Lamborghini Super Trofeo Asia.

"Go-karting is, I think, one of the best ways to train for cars," he said when met after the IAME Series Asia 2026 race at the LYL International Karting Circuit here today.

Putera Adam said he was also targeting the championship title in the Lamborghini Super Trofeo Asia after winning the overall Pro category in the Lamborghini Super Trofeo Europe last year.

"For the Lamborghini Super Trofeo Asia, of course my target is to become champion. But this year's performance has not been as good as last year because this is a new experience for me racing in Asia. Last year I won in Europe, but this year I will still do my best," he said after finishing seventh in today's IAME Series Asia 2026 race after completing 18 laps, recording a time of 1 minute 7.288 seconds on his final lap.

Representing DRM Racing Team in kart No. 245, Putera Adam recorded a fastest lap of 1:06.735s, finishing 7.078 seconds behind the leader.

His compatriot Zarief Rayqal Fahruddin Putera Adam Halim Muazzam finished fifth with a time of 1:08.038s and a fastest lap of 1:06.71s, 4.733 seconds behind the leader.

Thai racer Toby Gale won the race with a time of 1:06.612s, while Singapore's Dilan Tan finished second in 1:06.67s and Spain's Aaron Garcia took third place in 1:06.695s.

IAME Series Asia Executive Director Daniel Ling said today's fifth round of the Infinity IAME Series Asia at the LYL International Karting Circuit recorded the largest field in the championship's history, with 121 racers from 15 countries competing.

Daniel said the championship, which returned to Malaysia for the second time this year following the opening round in January, also featured racers from Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia, the Philippines, Japan, Spain and Italy.
