GUA MUSANG, Aug 8 (Bernama) -- The Gua Musang District Social Welfare Department (JKM) will work with the Ministry of Health (MOH) to complete the process of verifying the disability status of an Orang Asli woman in Kampung Rejom, here.
Gua Musang District Social Welfare Officer Bun Tham Eh Gin said the move would allow Noria Alueg, 40, from the Temiar tribe, to undergo a medical assessment before her registration for a Persons with Disabilities (OKU) card and appropriate welfare assistance could be considered.
"For this case, JKM will liaise with MOH for the next process. Once the assessment results and her disability status are confirmed, we will process the OKU card registration and subsequently consider suitable assistance," he told reporters here today.
He said JKM could consider the RM300-a-month Cash Assistance for Disabled Persons Unable to Work (BTB) if Noria was confirmed as an OKU.
Bun Tham said his department had previously visited Noria's home last year and handed over the OKU card registration form, but the process could not proceed after the form was not returned and the family failed to obtain confirmation from a medical officer.
Meanwhile, Noria's sister-in-law, Noraida Sarim, 54, said Noria, who had two children aged five and seven, was under her care while her husband was out at work, but the family faced transportation difficulties in taking her out of the village to seek treatment and complete the OKU card registration process.
