KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 5 (Bernama) -- Sunway Medical Centre Velocity (SMCV) has become the first hospital in Southeast Asia to launch the comprehensive NORAV Clinical Management System, an integrated digital platform designed to centralise diagnostic information, streamline clinical workflows and support faster, more coordinated patient care.
In a statement today, SMCV said the system brings multiple diagnostic services into a single connected platform, enabling authorised healthcare professionals to securely access patient information and medical reports anywhere within the hospital.
The system launch was officiated by Managing Director, Hospital & Healthcare Operations of Sunway Healthcare Group (SHG), Dr Khoo Chow Huat, together with Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of SMCV, Susan Cheow, Vice President of International Sales at NORAV Medical, Jordan Meshil, and Business Development Manager at Sun Medical Systems, Ravi Kumaran.
The NORAV Medical ECG Management System (NEMS) Web platform integrates six diagnostic services: electrocardiogram (ECG), cardiac stress testing, pulmonary function testing (PFT), Holter monitoring, ambulatory blood pressure monitoring (ABPM), and ankle-brachial pressure index testing (ABPI).
“By bringing these services into one digital workflow, the system enables diagnostic information to be stored and securely shared across relevant departments in real time.
“This gives authorised healthcare professionals faster access to patient records and reports, supporting more efficient clinical interpretation, reporting and coordination between multidisciplinary healthcare teams,” the statement read.
Cheow said the comprehensive NORAV Clinical Management System strengthens the way diagnostic information is managed and shared across SMCV, providing clinical teams with more timely access to information needed for treatment decisions.
“Most importantly for our patients, this supports a smoother journey from medical assessment to treatment. Faster access to diagnostic information reduces waiting time for reports and improves coordination among healthcare professionals involved in their care,” she said in the statement.
By replacing fragmented systems and manual processes with a unified digital workflow, the platform reduces administrative workload while improving the turnover time and accessibility of diagnostic information. Enhanced accessibility to current and previous medical records helps clinicians review results more efficiently.
Consultant Physician and Cardiologist Dr Tee Chee Hian said timely access to complete and accurate diagnostic information is essential in supporting clinical decision-making, particularly for patients requiring several investigations or input from different specialists.
"Having these records available through one integrated system allows us to review results more efficiently, obtain a clearer overview of the patient’s condition and coordinate more seamlessly across the care team, helping patients receive the appropriate treatment," he said.
The system also supports a more connected patient journey by improving coordination between the healthcare professionals involved at different stages of diagnosis and treatment. This allows information to move more efficiently across departments while maintaining the security and accessibility of patients’ medical records within the hospital.
Meanwhile, Meshil shared that before this integrated system is in place, data from each diagnostic service sits in its own silo, and moving a single result from one department to another can take several internal steps. This system removes those steps by bringing the output of each service into one record, so the clinician is working from a complete picture rather than assembling one.
"That also changes what needs to be printed. When a record can be pulled up from any workstation, information becomes easily accessible. We are pleased to work with SMCV and Sun Medical Systems on this first comprehensive deployment in Southeast Asia and to support the hospital's efforts to advance digitally connected patient care," he added.
According to the statement, the implementation of NORAV Comprehensive Clinical Management System also supports SMCV's sustainability efforts by reducing its reliance on printed diagnostic records.
Through the digitalisation of ECG reports and other diagnostic information, the hospital expects to reduce ECG paper usage by up to 50 per cent. This helps SMCV to build a more environmentally responsible healthcare ecosystem while helping the hospital manage its resources more efficiently.
Cheow said that not only does the system improve clinical and operational efficiency, it should also help the hospital manage resources more responsibly.
“Reducing paper usage through digital clinical records is one practical way to support a smarter and more sustainable healthcare environment without compromising the quality, security and accessibility of patient information.”
The deployment of the NORAV Comprehensive Clinical Management System forms part of SMCV's ongoing efforts to strengthen its sustainability initiatives, enhance operational efficiency and deliver a more seamless and connected patient experience.
