KUALA PILAH, Aug 2 (Bernama) -- Shortly after taking the oath as Menteri Besar of Negeri Sembilan today, Datuk Ismail Lasim, accompanied by his wife Datin Noraishah Othman, visited the graves of his parents at the Tebing Tinggi Muslim cemetery here today.
Dressed in traditional black Malay attire complete with a sampin songket, an emotional Ismail was seen fighting back tears as he offered prayers at the graves.
His father, the late Lasim Yaman, passed away on March 5, 2020, at the age of 97, while his mother, the late Bedah Othman, died on Sept 16, 2014.
Ismail, who won the Juasseh state seat in yesterday's 16th Negeri Sembilan state election, took his oath of office as Menteri Besar before the Yang di-Pertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan, Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir, at Istana Besar Seri Menanti.
Yesterday's election results saw Barisan Nasional securing 18 state seats, while Perikatan Nasional won seven, enabling the two coalitions to form the state government with a two-thirds majority.
