GLASGOW, Aug 1 (Bernama) -- National track cyclist Lau New Joe had to be stretchered out  by the medical team after being involved in a crash during the men’s 10 kilometres (km) scratch race final at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games here today.

New Joe did not finish the race at the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome and was listed as “Did Not Finish” in the official results.

The crash occurred shortly before the riders entered the final lap as the field began sprinting for the finish and New Joe appeared to be briefly unconscious following the crash.

A source told Bernama that the 21-year-old cyclist sustained serious injuries around his mouth and teeth and also complained of pain in his knee.

New Joe who is making his Commonwealth Games debut at this edition, has since regained consciousness and remains under medical observation at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital here for further assessment.

In the race, England’s Henry Hobbs won the gold medal, while Australia’s Thomas Cornish took silver and England’s Ethan Vernon claimed bronze.
