SEREMBAN, Aug 1 (Bernama) -- The mandate given to Perikatan Nasional (PN) in the 16th Negeri Sembilan state election sends a clear signal that the people support efforts to foster unity based on justice, well-being and harmony in a multiracial society, says PAS president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang.
He said PAS fully recognised the immense responsibility and trust placed in it by the electorate.
"Our priority is to honour this victory through an agenda centred on welfare, integrity and justice for all," he said in a statement today.
Abdul Hadi also expressed appreciation to the entire leadership of PN and Barisan Nasional (BN), as well as the candidates, party workers and campaign machinery who worked in unity to ensure the success of the PN-BN alliance.
Based on the unofficial results, PN won seven of the 11 state seats it contested, while BN secured 18 of the 25 seats it contested, enabling the two cooperating coalitions to form the new Negeri Sembilan state government.
In today's election, Pakatan Harapan (PH) contested all 36 seats; BN, 25; Bersatu, 24; and PN, 11, while Berjasa, ASLI, and Parti Sosialis Malaysia fielded one candidate each, alongside four Independents.
In the previous election, PH, which won 17 seats, and BN, with 14 seats, formed the state government, while PN secured five seats.
On April 27, Negeri Sembilan BN withdrew its support for Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun, leading to the dissolution of the State Legislative Assembly on June 5 and paving the way for the state election.
