KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 1 (Bernama) -- Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has congratulated the Sekolah Seri Puteri orchestra, Seri Puteri Symphonic Winds Orchestra (SPWinds), for winning the Gold With Distinction award in the Wind Band Youth Division at the World Music Contest in the Netherlands.
In a Facebook post, Anwar expressed hope that the achievement would inspire all Malaysians to continue striving with determination, discipline and an unwavering spirit to bring glory to the nation.
“Congratulations and keep achieving even greater success,” he said.
In April, the Prime Minister announced a RM100,000 contribution to the SPWinds orchestra as a show of support and encouragement for the team to carry out programmes and activities that contribute to students' holistic development through excellence in the arts.
The contribution was announced when he attended the "Winds of Glory: AM:PM Amir Masdi & SPWinds in Concert" performance at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre (PICC) on April 25.
The SPWinds orchestra previously brought pride to the nation by winning the Gold Award at the 11th World Orchestra Festival, held in Vienna, Austria, from July 23 to 26 last year.
