PHNOM PENH, Aug 1 (Bernama-Xinhua) -- Cambodia's Angkor Archaeological Park generated US$20.3 million from ticket sales in the first seven months of 2026, marking a 29-per cent decline from the US$28.6 million recorded during the same period last year, according to an official report released on Saturday, reported Xinhua.
Angkor Enterprise reported that the UNESCO World Heritage Site drew 428,223 international tourists between January and July. This represents a 30.7-per cent drop from the 618,771 visitors recorded in the same period in 2025, the report said. In July 2026 alone, foreign arrivals fell 21 per cent year-on-year to 40,451, while monthly ticket revenue dropped 20 per cent to US$1.85 million dollars.
Located in northwestern Siem Reap province, the 401-square-kilometre park is Cambodia's premier tourist destination, housing 91 ancient temples built between the ninth and 13th centuries.
Thong Mengdavid, deputy director of the China-ASEAN Studies Centre at the Cambodia University of Technology and Science, attributed the slump to global and regional economic slowdowns, online scam concerns, and border tensions with Thailand.
"This significant decline has been further exacerbated by the conflict in West Asia, which has driven up fuel prices and disrupted global flight schedules," Mengdavid said.
