MELAKA, July 31 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian Amateur Radio Transmitters' Society (MARTS) represented Malaysia at the Third Asia-Pacific Telecommunity (APT) Conference Preparatory Group for WRC-27 (APG27-3) meeting in Sapporo, Japan, which ran from Monday until today.
In a statement, MARTS said the APT-organised conference convened telecommunications regulators, industry experts and international organisations to shape Asia-Pacific Common Proposals ahead of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) World Radiocommunication Conference 2027 (WRC-27).
MARTS participated in the conference as a member of the Malaysian delegation, represented by its president Mohd Aris Bernawi and secretary Sion Chow.
"Their participation was aimed at supporting the position and role of the International Amateur Radio Union (IARU) in safeguarding the amateur radio spectrum," MARTS said in the statement today.
Meanwhile, Mohd Aris said MARTS’ participation in the conference was aimed at ensuring the interests of the Amateur Service and Amateur-Satellite Service remain protected and free from interference by other services.
He said the delegation joined various working parties and drafting groups to contribute to proposals related to the agenda of the WRC-27, scheduled to take place later.
"Amateur radio is more than just a hobby. It plays an important role in emergency communications, technical innovation, science and engineering education, as well as international cooperation.
"Therefore, the frequency spectrum allocated for this service must continue to be protected for current and future generations," he said.
The IARU, as the international body representing amateur radio, remains committed to defending spectrum allocations through active participation in regional and international conferences such as the APG and WRC.
APG27-3 is the third meeting in a series of regional preparatory sessions ahead of WRC-27, which is scheduled to take place in 2027 under the auspices of the ITU.
Representing the government, the meeting brought together officials from the Ministry of Communications, the national telecommunications regulator, the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), as well as stakeholders from telecommunications companies and digital service providers.
