Brussels Accuses Temu Of Obstructing EU Investigation

BRUSSELS, July 31 (Bernama-dpa) -- The European Commission has accused online retail giant Temu of obstructing an investigation under the EU's Foreign Subsidies Regulation, reported German news agency (dpa).

In the allegations made public on Friday, the commission says that Chinese-owned Temu has violated its obligation to actively cooperate during an unannounced inspection in Ireland in December 2025.

The commission carried out the on-site inspection over concerns that Temu might have received foreign subsidies that distort the EU's internal market, a press release said. The aim of the search was to gather evidence.

According to the commission, Temu failed to comply with requests for information "on the organisation and management of Temu's activities in the EU and the IT tools and systems used by the company for its activities in the EU, as well as to the provision of specific books and records on the company's activities in the EU."

The commission, however, stressed that the allegations raised on Friday do not prejudge the outcome of the EU's foreign subsidy investigation.
