GLASGOW, July 30 (Bernama) -- From the regional stage to the world's biggest sporting events, national para long jump star Datuk Abdul Latif Romly can now proudly be regarded as one of Malaysia's most successful para athletes after conquering every major championship in his career.
His gold medal in the men's T20 long jump at the 2026 Glasgow Commonwealth Games here completed a collection of international titles built over more than a decade.
The triumph saw Abdul Latif complete a full set of major titles, having won gold at the ASEAN Para Games, Asian Para Games, World Championships, Paralympic Games and now the Commonwealth Games.
Abdul Latif described the gold medal in Glasgow as the culmination of a 12-year wait to secure every major title.
"My mission to complete the collection of gold medal titles has been accomplished. It took 12 years to complete every title," wrote the two-time Paralympic gold medallist in an Instagram post today.
Abdul Latif delivered Malaysia's fifth gold medal after winning the men's T20 long jump with a leap of 7.17 metres (m) at Scotstoun Stadium on Tuesday.
The victory not only helped Malaysia achieve its target of five gold medals in Glasgow but also reinforced the status of the 29-year-old Perlis-born athlete as one of the country's para sports icons.
In addition to his two Paralympic gold medals, Abdul Latif has also won five world titles, three Asian Para Games gold medals and four ASEAN Para Games gold medals.
