IPOH, July 26 (Bernama) -- The Energy Commission (ST) continues to strengthen public awareness on sustainable energy use through the Energy Smart Carnival 2026, a two-day event held at Stadium Indera Mulia here.
Its chairman Datuk Seri Asri Hamidon said the carnival aims to bring the agency closer to the public while providing an opportunity for people from all walks of life to better understand ST’s role as the regulatory body for the country’s electricity and piped gas sectors, as well as developments in the energy industry.
“This carnival is one of the best ways for us to engage directly with the public and enhance understanding of ST’s role as the energy sector regulator.
“Visitors can learn about ST’s services, the latest developments in the country’s electricity supply industry, current government incentives related to energy efficiency and renewable energy, as well as education and career opportunities in the energy sector,” he said at the opening ceremony here today.
Also present were Perak Infrastructure, Energy, Water and Public Transport Committee chairman Datuk Seri Mohammad Nizar Jamaluddin and ST chief executive officer Siti Safinah Salleh.
Asri said the carnival was also part of ST’s proactive efforts to engage the community through an inclusive and family-friendly platform.
“We want to promote awareness on energy efficiency, safety and energy transition through an approach that is enjoyable and easy to understand,” he said.
Meanwhile, ST Strategic Communications Section head Veliana Ruslan said the commission plans to expand the carnival to other states from next year following the encouraging response to its inaugural edition in Perak.
She said the two-day event attracted more than 10,000 visitors, exceeding the initial target of 5,000.
“We are grateful for the encouraging response, with visitors not only from Perak but also from Kuala Lumpur, Johor Bahru and other areas,” she said.
Held in conjunction with ST’s Silver Jubilee celebration, the carnival supports the national energy transition agenda through exhibitions, demonstrations, talks and competitions aimed at educating the public on responsible energy use.
Visitors were also exposed to ways to reduce household electricity consumption, the importance of 4 or 5-Star Energy Efficiency Labels and ST-SIRIM Safety Labels, as well as guidelines for selecting more energy-efficient electrical appliances.
