Religious Governance To Reflect Sultan Nazrin's "Everyone Matters" Principle

PUTRAJAYA, July 22 (Bernama) -- The Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) will continue strengthening the governance of religious institutions based on integrity, accountability and public well-being, in line with Sultan Nazrin Shah's call for Muslim countries to embrace good governance and inclusive development guided by the principle of "Everyone Matters".

Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) Dr Zulkifli Hasan said the principle is not only consistent with Islamic aspirations but also aligns with the objectives of Maqasid Syariah and the concept of karamah insaniah (human dignity).

"His Royal Highness' call for Muslim countries to strengthen governance and pursue inclusive development based on the principle of 'Everyone Matters' is fully in line with the aspirations of Islam.

"This principle is consistent with the objectives of Maqasid Syariah and karamah insaniah, which call for social justice, the preservation of the well-being of the ummah and the protection of the people's welfare," he said in a statement today.

In his royal address at the 8th World Conference on Islamic Thought and Civilisation (WCIT) yesterday, Sultan Nazrin said a public service that serves every citizen regardless of race, religion or political beliefs reflects national unity and humble leadership that listens to the people before making laws.

His Royal Highness said development cannot be pursued in isolation because, regardless of a country's resources, no nation can isolate itself from the world as trade, investment, knowledge exchange and technology drive prosperity.

Reflecting on Sultan Nazrin's call that good governance is a prerequisite for prosperity, Zulkifli said his department is committed to ensuring institutional management and public budgeting are guided by integrity, itqan (excellence in work) and accountability.

"Authority is a trust from Allah that must be exercised with humility, by listening to the people's grievances, and by managing public funds as a moral responsibility to prioritise the well-being of the ummah," he said.

He also called on religious agencies and Muslims to embrace a courteous work culture, strengthen social unity, and foster collaboration and the sharing of beneficial knowledge.
