Sibujaya Storm Leaves Seven Tenants Seeking Shelter
SIBU, July 18 (Bernama) -- Seven tenants renting rooms on the third floor of a shoplot building in Bandar Baru Sibujaya were forced to seek temporary shelter after the roof of the premises was damaged during a storm accompanied by heavy rain this afternoon.
A Sibu District Civil Defence Force (APM) spokesperson said the rooms were no longer safe for occupation due to the damage.
“All the victims are staying with relatives until the situation is safe,” the spokesperson told Bernama tonight.
Meanwhile, Sibu Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) Zone 4 chief, Andy Alie said the storm, which occurred at 2.58 pm, also damaged several parts of the Sibujaya Fire and Rescue Station (BBP).
He said the damage involved the glass sliding doors and glass wall at the ground floor lobby, gypsum ceiling, aluminium wall at the vehicle parking area, skylight roofing at the foyer, as well as the lighting system and electrical wiring.
“Despite the damage, the Sibujaya fire station remains operational as usual. Repair works will be carried out as soon as possible after the damage assessment and cost estimation are completed,” he said.
Meanwhile, the National Disaster Management Agency (NADMA) portal reported that a temporary relief centre had been opened to accommodate 11 victims from two families affected by the storm.
