MPK Second PBT To Adopt Smart Led Lighting Technology

CHUKAI, July 11 (Bernama) -- The Kemaman Municipal Council (MPK) has become the second local authority (PBT) in Malaysia to introduce smart decorative lighting equipped with motion sensors using light-emitting diode (LED) technology along the pedestrian walkway at Chukai Smart Park here.

MPK president Zuwislan Awang said the smart decorative lights installed along the 32-metre walkway had enhanced the appeal of the public recreation area, creating a more vibrant space.

He said the RM150,000 facility was part of MPK’s efforts to enhance the park’s ambience by creating a more lively, interactive and attractive environment for visitors, particularly at night.

Zuwislan said the concept was first introduced by the Penang Island City Council (MBPP) at Linear Park, Padang Kota Lama, Penang.

“The LED images and lighting will respond automatically to pedestrians’ movements, with the lighting patterns changing according to the direction they walk through motion sensor technology,” he said when contacted by Bernama today.

Zuwislan said the smart LED-lit pedestrian walkway, which operates daily from 8 pm to midnight, was opened to the public after the opening ceremony of the Chukai Smart Park on June 30.

According to him, the Chukai Smart Park, developed in 2024, was among MPK’s initiatives towards realising the Kemaman Smart City 2030 aspiration.

“Through the development of Chukai Smart City, several other facilities powered by smart technology have also been introduced, including Smart Toilet, Smart Compound Light, Mosquito Lamp, Wireless USB Charging Point and Panic Button,” he said.

Meanwhile, visitor Wan Ibrahim Wan Sulong, 42, from Kijal said he was impressed with MPK’s efforts to introduce smart technology through the development of Chukai Smart City.

“The smart decorative lights not only enhance the landscape of Chukai town, but also create a more vibrant and welcoming atmosphere, especially at night.

“The facility also offers residents and visitors a place to spend quality time with their families while enjoying the attractive display of smart decorative lights,” he said.

Another visitor, Siti Fatimah Ibrahim, 36, from Chukai, said she and her husband brought their two sons, aged five and seven, to experience the smart LED-lit walkway.

“My children love it because the lights change every time they walk. It is a fun place for families to spend time together at night,” she said.
