MELAKA, July 8 (Bernama) -- A teacher and three male students were hurt after the Proton Saga car they were travelling in was involved in a collision with a lorry in front of HRSB Holdings Sdn Bhd, Solok Duku, here today.
Melaka Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) Zone 2 chief Zulkhairani Ramli said the department received an emergency call regarding the incident at 3.24 pm before a team of six personnel from the Masjid Tanah Fire and Rescue Station was dispatched to the scene.
"The 24-year-old male teacher and a 16-year-old student seated in the rear suffered serious injuries after becoming trapped in the vehicle before they were successfully extricated by firefighters using special rescue equipment.
"Meanwhile, the two other students, aged 15 and 16, sustained a broken leg and impact injuries respectively. Both victims were rescued by members of the public before the firefighters arrived, while the 46-year-old lorry driver escaped unhurt," he said in a statement here today.
He said all the injured victims were sent to a nearby hospital for further treatment.
Meanwhile, he said firefighters also foiled attempts by several individuals believed to have tried to take the teacher's personal belongings and cash while the rescue operation was underway.
"All of the victim's belongings were successfully safeguarded before being handed over to the police for further action," he said.
