Johor Polls: Resolving Internet Issues Top Priority For PH Candidate In Benut
By Muhammad Faiz Baharin
BATU PAHAT, July 7 (Bernama) -- Pakatan Harapan (PH) candidate Abd Razak Ismail has pledged to make resolving long-running internet access issues his main agenda should voters in the Benut state constituency give him the mandate in the Johor state election.
The Johor Parti Amanah youth communications director said that internet connectivity was among the most common complaints raised by residents during his campaign engagements.
"Yes, this is a long-standing issue, and addressing internet connectivity problems will be my top priority in Benut. I will seek solutions, including support from the federal government.
"I am also determined to focus on upgrading public facilities and infrastructure, while driving economic development initiatives in Benut," he said when met by Bernama at the PH main operations room in Benut.
Abd Razak admitted he faces a tough task in taking over the Benut state seat, widely seen as a traditional Barisan Nasional (BN) stronghold.
"Nevertheless, we remain confident, as the response from local residents during the campaign has been encouraging. We will continue to push hard in the final days of campaigning, including through social media platforms," he said.
Meanwhile, BN candidate Datuk Mohd Sumali Reduan said he was taking nothing for granted and would continue efforts to engage as many Benut voters as possible to defend the seat as an UMNO stronghold.
The UMNO working secretary said his roots in Benut, where he was born and raised, could be an advantage, given his close ties with residents, which could give him added momentum in his first electoral contest.
"For the remaining days of campaigning, we will focus on engaging voters through more frequent grassroots programmes. I hope the support expressed by the public so far will lead to our success in defending the Benut seat this Saturday," he said.
Benut will see a head-to-head battle between Mohd Sumali and Abd Razak in the Johor state election this Saturday.
Former Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Hasni Mohammad, who represented BN, held the Benut state seat after securing a majority of 5,859 votes in the previous election.
