Johor Polls: Sharon Teo Announces Six 'Permas Kita Settle' Manifesto Pledges

JOHOR BAHRU, July 6 (Bernama) -- The Pakatan Harapan (PH) candidate for the Permas state seat, Sharon Teo Siew Hui, today announced six pledges under the "Permas Kita Settle" manifesto, which focuses on resolving issues related to infrastructure, traffic congestion, youth development, women's and family welfare and community empowerment.

Teo said the pledges were formulated based on feedback from residents, field visits, and studies with several think tanks to identify the main issues in the Permas state constituency.

"From the surveys and feedback we received on the ground, the main issue in Permas is actually the infrastructure issue. That's what we hear from the people," she said at a press conference here today.

Teo said that the results of the audit will later serve as the basis for the preparation of the Permas Traffic Plan 2030 to address congestion issues, particularly on the Permas Jaya to Pasir Gudang. route.

She said another pledge is the establishment of the Permas Youth Hub, making Permas more women- and family-friendly, empowering the communities of Sabah and Sarawak in Johor, including upgrading the Pasar Borneo, and holding the Permas Community Dialogue regularly.

Commenting on voter demographics, Teo said that those aged 18 to 39 make up about 53 per cent of the total 113,963 voters in the Permas state constituency, thus making the youth agenda one of her priorities.

Therefore, she hopes that voters, including the youth and fence-sitters, will give her the opportunity to serve in Permas for five years, bringing with her the experience gained while serving as a special assistant to the late Datuk Seri Salahuddin Ayub, former Pulai member of parliament, since 2018.

With five days remaining before the election on Saturday, Teo has chosen the approach of listening to the people's voices and engaging with voters regardless of their ethnicity as the focus of the campaign.

"I will assist the people as much as possible regardless of their ethnicity. I will sit down and talk with them. If you want to become a people's representative, the first thing you need to do is listen to what the people want," she said.

She said the sentiment of voters in the area is also becoming more positive as more voters have been giving words of encouragement throughout the campaign period.

Teo will be challenged by the incumbent, who is also the Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate Baharudin Mohamed Taib, Dr. Zamil Najwah from the Parti Bersama Malaysia (Bersama), and T. Vela representing Perikatan Nasional (PN) in a four-cornered contest.
