Johor Polls: PH's Guna Pledges Inclusive Development For Layang-layang

KLUANG, July 5 (Bernama) -- Pakatan Harapan (PH) candidate for the Layang-Layang state seat, Guna Balakrishnan, has outlined six key manifesto pledges focusing on inclusive development and the well-being of residents in the constituency.

He said he is committed to being a people's representative who remains close to the community to better understand local needs and champion development that benefits all residents of Layang-Layang.

"I am committed to working with the Johor state government, local authorities and relevant agencies to ensure that each of these issues receives due attention and effective solutions," he said in a media statement here today.

The manifesto addresses critical issues, including resolving the recurring flood problems affecting residents in areas such as Kampung Senda, Sungai Sayong, Kampung Tengah Renggam, Ulu Benut, Simpang Renggam and Kampung Chokro.

He pledged to expedite the implementation of flood mitigation projects, upgrade drainage systems, and ensure systematic maintenance of roads and public facilities.

On public safety and digital infrastructure, Guna also outlined plans to improve street lighting and strengthen internet coverage in rural areas to facilitate education and business activities for residents.

He also highlighted efforts to empower the local economy by supporting small traders and tapping Renggam's tourism potential to generate new sources of income for residents.

"For youths, I will expand access to Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) and propose the establishment of a motorsports track as a safer and more organised platform for talent development," he said.

Guna also emphasised the welfare of women and senior citizens, including proposals to strengthen women's entrepreneurship and establish a Senior Citizens Activity Centre (PAWE) to ensure they continue to lead active and fulfilling lives.

He stressed that the pledges are not merely election promises but realistic commitments to bring about positive change through close cooperation between the government and the community.

"I believe the role of a state assemblyman is to serve as an effective bridge between the people and the government, ensuring that every issue is brought to the attention of the relevant authorities while advocating solutions that benefit the entire community.

"Therefore, I seek the support and trust of all Layang-Layang residents so that together we can build a better future," he said.

Layang-Layang, which has 25,181 registered voters, sees a three-cornered contest involving Guna, Barisan Nasional candidate Chua Jian Boon, and incumbent Abd Mutalip Abd Rahim, who is representing Perikatan Nasional.

The Johor state election will be held on July 11, with early voting on July 7.
