SSMP Retain MCKK Premier 7s Rugby Title After Edging SSTMI
KUALA LUMPUR, July 5 (Bernama) -- Defending champions Sekolah Sukan Malaysia Pahang (SSMP) successfully retained the MCKK Premier 7s rugby title after defeating Sekolah Sukan Tunku Mahkota Ismail (SSTMI) 19-14 in the Cup final at the Malay College Kuala Kangsar (MCKK) field in Perak today.
The victory saw SSMP lift the NJ Ryan Trophy for the second consecutive year, having also overcome SSTMI in last year's final.
The clash between the country's two school rugby powerhouses was fiercely contested, with both teams producing a high-quality performance, but SSMP successfully held on to their advantage until the final whistle.
In the Plate competition, SMK Tun Hussein Onn (THOR) emerged champions after defeating Sekolah Sultan Alam Shah (SAS) 24-19.
Meanwhile, SMK Hosba (HOSBA) claimed the Bowl title with a 17-12 victory over SMK Syed Sirajuddin (SEMSIRA).
The Shield title went to MRSM Balik Pulau (MRSMBP), who thrashed Royal Military College (RMC) 22-0.
The closing ceremony and prize presentation were officiated by the son of the Sultan of Perak, Raja Datuk Seri Azlan Muzaffar Shah, who presented the trophies and medals to the winners, bringing the curtain down on the 14th edition of the prestigious school rugby sevens tournament.
