BATU PAHAT, July 5 (Bernama) -- Pakatan Harapan (PH) candidate for Penggaram, Felicia Poh Rui Ling is making the young generation the focus of her four priorities to empower the local community should she be emerge victorious in the upcoming 16th Johor state election.
Felicia, 28, said that her first mission would be to shift young people's mindset from merely seeking employment to venturing into entrepreneurship, particularly through Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises.
She also expressed her commitment to provide comprehensive exposure to government initiatives, including access to financing and entrepreneurship development programmes, to build young people's confidence in pursuing business opportunities.
“Strengthening collaboration with industry players is also important for young people, particularly in marketing, through the expansion of training programmes in e-commerce, artificial intelligence (AI) and advanced digital skills.
“Youth social activities will also be given priority to encourage young people to contribute to society by fostering volunteerism and producing an active and engaged generation,” she told Bernama recently.
Felicia’s second priority would be to build stronger family institutions by focusing on the needs of women, single mothers and caregivers of vulnerable family members, pledging to serve as a “bridge” to ensure these groups do not miss out on government assistance and initiatives.
“Several government initiatives, whether by the federal or state government, have moved online. However, some people are missing out because they lack the necessary digital skills. That is why I am determined to continue going to the ground to help them,” she said.
Her third priority is on improving the welfare of senior citizens by creating a harmonious, active and healthy living environment for them.
“I will expand healthcare and health awareness programmes focused on preventing chronic diseases and improving health management for senior citizens,” she said, adding that she would broaden preventive healthcare programmes for chronic illnesses while improving public facilities to make them more accessible for seniors and persons with disabilities.
Finally, her fourth priority is on empowering the local community by promoting the history, culture and unique identity of Batu Pahat through programmes to stimulate the local economy through creative community-based activities.
“I want Batu Pahat, especially the Penggaram constituency, to be better known for its unique food, multicultural harmony and rich cultural heritage,” she said.
Johor voters will cast their ballots on July 11, with early voting scheduled on July 7.
