Johor Smallholder Generates RM126,000 income From RM15,000 Govt Aid - MPOB

KUALA LUMPUR, July 5 (Bernama) -- A RM15,000 government assistance has helped an oil palm smallholder in Batu Pahat, Johor generate nearly RM126,000 in gross income in less than three years through an integrated duck farming project under the Livestock and Oil Palm Integration Incentive Scheme.

The assistance, provided by the Plantation and Commodities Ministry through the Malaysian Palm Oil Board (MPOB), enabled Mohamad Danial Md Jalil to establish an egg-laying duck enterprise on his 0.68-hectare (1.68-acre) oil palm plantation in Kampung Gombak, Mukim Peserai.

After receiving the grant in December 2023, Mohamad Danial expanded his flock to 360 ducks, which produced about 240 eggs daily, according to MPOB in a statement here.

The farm has produced 94,860 eggs as of May 2026, generating gross income of nearly RM126,000 and providing him with an additional monthly income of between RM2,000 and RM4,000.

Mohamad Danial also produces salted eggs to diversify his income and to meet local demand, including orders for festive and community functions.

Plantation and Commodities Minister Datuk Seri Noraini Ahmad said during a working visit to the project today that this demonstrates that integrating livestock farming with oil palm cultivation can improve smallholders’ incomes while supporting the country’s food security agenda.

“We want more smallholders to view their oil palm plantations not merely as a source for producing fresh fruit bunches, but as a platform to generate various income streams through viable and sustainable integration activities,” she said.

Apart from generating additional income, the integration project also improves plantation sustainability by using livestock waste as organic fertiliser, reducing reliance on chemical fertilisers while enhancing soil fertility.

The scheme is one of MPOB’s initiatives to encourage independent oil palm smallholders to diversify their income through livestock farming while promoting sustainable agricultural practices.
