Student Sodomy Case: Police Record Two Statements, To Call More Witnesses

SHAH ALAM, July 5 (Bernama) -- Police have recorded statements from two individuals and will call several more witnesses to assist in the investigation into an alleged molestation and sodomy case involving a college employee in Glenmarie here.

Shah Alam district police chief ACP Sarudin Samah said the two individuals whose statements had been recorded were the complainant and the suspect's father, while arrangements were being made to record statements from other witnesses to complete the investigation.

Sarudin said preliminary checks also found that the man had been employed at the college for the past two years.

"Based on preliminary information obtained from the college staff, the management allegedly did not conduct a criminal background check during the recruitment process, and was therefore unaware that the suspect had a prior record involving sexual offences.

"Statements will be recorded from the college management to verify the matter and assist in the investigation," he said, adding that the suspect had been remanded for seven days beginning yesterday.

He said further investigations were ongoing, including efforts to obtain digital evidence and the medical report, before the investigation paper is referred to the Deputy Public Prosecutor for further instructions.

The media previously reported that police arrested a man in his 30s at a restaurant here at 12.01 am yesterday over the alleged sodomy and molestation of two students of the college.
