Malaysia Among World's Leading Nations In Islamic Affairs Management

BUKIT MERTAJAM, July 5 (Bernama) -- Malaysia continues to gain international recognition as one of the leading Islamic countries in the management of Islamic affairs, underpinned by the success of various institutions and policies, said Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) Dr Zulkifli Hasan.

He said the recognition is backed by data, statistics and the views of international scholars and observers who acknowledge Malaysia's capability in managing Islamic affairs.

"When I travel abroad, Malaysia's management of Islamic affairs is often observed and admired by other countries. Data consistently shows that we remain among the world's leaders in this field," he said.

Speaking at the opening of the Northern Zone MADANI Ulama and Umara Multaqa at Masjid Timah, Permatang Pauh, here today, he said the international perception contradicted claims that Islam was under threat or being marginalised in Malaysia.

"The world sees Malaysia as playing an important role in advancing and leading the management of Islam and religious affairs at the global level," he said.

Among the country's notable achievements is its halal certification system, led by the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (JAKIM), which he said is recognised as among the best in the world.

He said Malaysia's haj management through Lembaga Tabung Haji had earned global recognition on several occasions, while the country's Islamic finance industry had remained among the world's leaders, ranking first globally for 11 consecutive years.

On Islamic education, he said the government was strengthening the Kelas Al-Quran dan Fardu Ain (KAFA) curriculum through the KAFA 2.0 initiative, which places greater emphasis on practical application and appreciation of Islamic teachings.

Malaysia also has a comprehensive tahfiz ecosystem comprising the National Tahfiz Council, National Tahfiz Policy, National Tahfiz Standard and the Malaysia Tahfiz Certificate, enabling tahfiz graduates to pursue studies in professional, technical and higher education fields, he said.

He added that the government remained committed to producing more professional huffaz capable of contributing to national development.

Earlier, Yayasan Takwa contributed RM280,000 to 28 mosques in Penang, with each receiving RM10,000. Selected religious schools also received RM10,000 each to support the development of Islamic education institutions in the state.
