Koop Sahabat Clinches Premier Cooperative Status, Adding To Its Stellar Track Record
BUTTERWORTH, July 5 (Bernama) – Koperasi Sahabat Amanah Ikhtiar Malaysia (Koop Sahabat) Berhad’s recognition as Malaysia's Premier Cooperative proves that a cooperative founded to empower B40 women entrepreneurs under Amanah Ikhtiar Malaysia (AIM) can rise to become one of the country's most successful and high-performing organisations.
In a statement, Koop Sahabat said the achievement adds to its stellar track record, first listed among Malaysia's Top 100 Cooperatives in 2020, then maintaining a spot in the top 10 for six straight years.
"This recognition comes just 14 years after Koop Sahabat was established in 2012. It reflects our excellence in governance, management, financial performance, business sustainability and contribution to national socioeconomic development.
"Today, Koop Sahabat has over 466,000 members, with a business portfolio spanning Islamic financial services, property development, strategic investments, corporate investments and treasury management," the statement read.
Koop Sahabat received the award yesterday at the national-level 2026 National Cooperative Day launch, officiated by Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Minister Steven Sim Chee Keong at PICCA @ Butterworth Arena.
The cooperative stated that a key factor behind its success is the impressive performance of Sahabat Ar Rahnu, which provides Shariah-compliant financing.
Koop Sahabat has also expanded its property development portfolio through strategic projects, such as Residensi Madani Serunai in Putrajaya, Rumah Selangor KunShorea Garden in Puchong, and Hotel Fairfield by Marriott in Langkawi, an international-class hotel and the first of its kind undertaken by a cooperative.
Board chairman Mohd Najib Mohd Noor said the recognition is the fruit of dedication and commitment from the entire cooperative family.
He stressed that the Premier Cooperative status is not the finish line, but a trust to keep raising the bar.
"Our responsibility now is to ensure Koop Sahabat stays competitive, innovative and relevant, so that every success delivers real value to our members, the community and the nation," he said.
He added that the award proves cooperatives can hold their own against corporates when backed by strong governance, visionary leadership and sustainable strategies.
Koop Sahabat will press on as a driver of the people's economy, true to its slogan "Dari Sahabat, Kepada Sahabat, Untuk Sahabat" (From Friends, To Friends, For Friends), he said.
