Earthquake Strikes Off Japan's Miyakojima And Ryukyu Islands

TOKYO, July 3 (Bernama-Xinhua) -- An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 6.4 struck waters northwest of Miyakojima Island in Japan's Okinawa Prefecture on Friday, the weather agency said, reported Xinhua.

The temblor occurred at 1.05 pm local time at a shallow depth, measuring three on Japan's seismic intensity scale of seven in Kume Island, said the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA).

The quake's epicentre was located at a latitude of 26 degrees north and a longitude of 125.8 degrees east.

No tsunami warning was issued, the JMA said.

Earlier, an earthquake with a magnitude of 6.0 jolted the southwestern Ryukyu Islands, Japan, at 0404 GMT on Friday, the GFZ German Research Centre for Geosciences said.

The epicentre, with a depth of 10.0 kilometres, was initially determined to be at a latitude of 25.92 degrees north and at a longitude of 125.93 degrees east.
