Somnath Ghosh To Be India's New High Commissioner To Malaysia
HYDERABAD, July 2 (Bernama) -- Somnath Ghosh, a former Assistant High Commissioner of India to Bangladesh, has been appointed as the new High Commissioner of India to Malaysia.
Ghosh, who is at present serving as Consul General in Chicago, is expected to take up his Malaysia assignment shortly, India's External Affairs Ministry said in a statement.
He succeeds B. Nagabhushana Reddy, who recently completed his tenure of almost five years.
Ghosh joined the Indian Foreign Service (IFS) in 1997 and has held various key positions, including Ambassador to Mongolia between 2014 and 2016, followed by an ambassadorial stint in Tajikistan.
He holds an M.Sc degree from the Indian Institute of Technology in Kanpur and speaks Bengali, Hindi, English, and Russian, according to an official profile.
In Bangladesh, his consular responsibilities covered the regions of Chittagong and Sylhet.
He handled international cooperation work in the Defence Ministry from September 2019 to September 2022 and in that capacity oversaw defence policy and negotiations with the United States, Russia, France, Britain, and countries in India's neighbourhood.
