JAKARTA, July 2 (Bernama) -- Indonesia is moving ahead with the ratification of the Indonesia-Eurasian Economic Union Free Trade Agreement (Indonesia-EAEU FTA) following the signing of the trade pact with the economic bloc last year, President Prabowo Subianto said on Thursday.
Speaking alongside Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko after their bilateral meeting at Merdeka Palace, the Indonesian president welcomed Belarus' completion of the ratification process. “We appreciate Belarus for completing the ratification process of the Indonesia-EAEU FTA. We are also in the process of ratifying the agreement,” he said in a joint press statement event, which was streamed live on the Presidential Secretariat's YouTube channel.
Earlier, Foreign Minister Sugiono said Lukashenko's state visit reciprocated Prabowo's visit to Belarus on July 15 last year, during which both leaders agreed to further expand bilateral cooperation. He noted that it marked Lukashenko's second visit to Indonesia after his first in 2013, with Jakarta expecting the visit to further strengthen bilateral ties while opening new opportunities to boost trade, investment and cooperation in meeting the two countries' strategic resource needs.
According to Indonesia's Trade Ministry, the Indonesia-EAEU FTA signed in December 2025 grants Indonesia preferential tariff rates on 90.5 per cent of the EAEU’s tariff lines. Besides Belarus, the bloc comprises Armenia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Russia, with a combined market of about 180 million people.
Prabowo said Indonesia and Belarus had also launched the Indonesia-Belarus Cooperation Strengthening Roadmap 2026-2030, which would guide bilateral relations over the next five years. He highlighted that the roadmap reflected both countries' commitment to more focused and concrete cooperation, particularly in food security, with opportunities to expand collaboration in modern agriculture, fertilisers, agricultural machinery and technology, and heavy equipment.
He added that the two countries also agreed to strengthen cooperation in industrial development, agricultural modernisation, supply chains and technology, while exploring greater investment and joint venture opportunities, particularly in automotive manufacturing, heavy vehicles and agro-industry.
Prabowo said Indonesia and Belarus would also deepen cooperation in social, cultural, and human resource development through cultural exchanges and partnerships while continuing to exchange views on regional and global issues to support international peace and stability. He noted that the commitment to closer bilateral ties was also reflected in the signing of several cooperation documents covering health, culture, national accreditation, financial transaction reporting, industry, science and technology, financial services, and defence.
