Classes Suspended In Manila As Anti-corruption Rally Enters 3rd Day
MANILA, July 2 (Xinhua) -- Classes were suspended at all levels in both public and private schools in the city of Manila, capital of the Philippines, as an anti-corruption rally entered its third day on Thursday, according to local authorities.
The protest group said the rally aims to seek transparency, accountability, justice and support for Senator Rodante Marcoleta, who is facing a plunder charge involving an alleged donation of 75 million pesos (over 1.2 million U.S. dollars) he received while serving as a congressman before his 2025 senatorial bid.
The rally began on Tuesday at a monument in Quezon City, peaking at about 15,000 participants and prompting road closures, according to the police.
On Thursday, the rally moved to Manila after Quezon authorities revoked the protest group's permit.
