Mengkibol Mission: Chu Poh Yee Champions A Three-pronged Agenda
By Mohamad Syazwan Mustafa
KLUANG, July 1 (Bernama) -- Young lawyer and Pakatan Harapan (PH) candidate for the Mengkibol state seat, Chu Poh Yee, is campaigning on a three-pronged agenda comprising infrastructure transformation, domestic economic empowerment, and community welfare as her key priorities if given the mandate in the upcoming Johor state election.
She said that priority would be given to upgrading basic infrastructure, including improving road quality, as well as expanding community farming initiatives through urban agriculture projects to enhance the well-being of local residents.
On the economic front, Chu described Kluang’s business ecosystem as having significant potential for further growth through the creation of more open entrepreneurship platforms and quality employment opportunities to curb youth migration.
“Kluang’s economy is on the right track, and creative tourism events such as the Kluang Rail Festival have proven capable of generating positive spillover benefits for the local community,” she told Bernama in a recent interview.
Chu also aims to strengthen the role of women in the workforce by advocating for a more balanced work environment, enabling women to manage both their careers and family responsibilities without undue pressure.
“Providing well-equipped and conducive childcare centres is among the key initiatives I plan to pursue to help ease the burden on working parents,” she said.
Commenting on the challenges encountered during the campaign period, she said incidents of provocation, including the vandalism of the party’s campaign materials at several locations, had not diminished her team’s determination in the slightest.
“Our campaign team remains steadfast, and we will not back down from continuing to fight for Kluang’s future,” she said.
The Mengkibol state seat is one of 14 constituencies witnessing a straight fight in this Johor state election, with Chu set to face Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate Yap Zhi Peng.
The Johor state election sees a total of 172 candidates contesting 56 state seats. Polling day has been scheduled for July 11, while early voting will take place on July 7.
