HRPZ II In Kelantan To Get RM175 Mln Pathology Laboratory

KOTA BHARU, July 22 (Bernama) -- The Raja Perempuan Zainab Hospital II (HRPZ II) here will receive a new RM175 million pathology laboratory, with construction scheduled to begin next year to strengthen the hospital's diagnostic and laboratory services.

Deputy Health Director-General (Medical) Datuk Dr Mohd Azman Yacob said the project is expected to take between four and five years to complete before replacing the existing pathology laboratory building.

"The new laboratory will replace the old laboratory at HRPZ II and it will be equipped with various modern and latest technological equipment.

"The construction of the new laboratory building will also include 125 parking bays and 40 beds for a first-class ward," he told reporters after the opening of the 21st Annual Scientific Meeting of the College of Pathologists, Academy of Medicine and the launch of the Golden Jubilee Commemorative Book here today.

The two-day conference, which began today, brought together 462 participants from Malaysia and abroad to exchange expertise, research findings and best practices in pathology.

Dr Mohd Azman said new pathology laboratory buildings have been completed at Kuala Lumpur Hospital and Sultan Ismail Petra Hospital in Kuala Krai, while several other facilities have been identified for upgrading.

"There are 151 pathology laboratories in hospitals under the Ministry of Health, while as of June, there were 825 health clinics, including seven at Urban Transformation Centres (UTCs).

"Plans for additional new laboratories include Kemaman Hospital (Terengganu), Lawas Hospital (Sarawak), Kapar Hospital (Selangor), the Sarawak Cancer Centre and the Northern Region Cancer Centre," he said.

He added that pathology laboratory services continue to evolve with the adoption of advanced technology and sophisticated equipment to enable faster and more accurate disease diagnosis.
