N9 Polls: PH Candidates In Jempol Pledge To Address Infrastructure, Felda Welfare Issues
JEMPOL, July 18 (Bernama) -- Pakatan Harapan (PH) candidates contesting the Negeri Sembilan state election in the four state seats under the Jempol parliamentary constituency have pledged to focus on resolving structural issues, improving basic amenities and safeguarding the welfare of FELDA settlers.
For PH’s Jeram Padang state seat candidate, G. Manivannan, his main focus is on addressing issues related to employment opportunities, education and infrastructure, which he described as the community's basic needs.
Drawing on nearly 20 years of political experience, including as former Member of Parliament for Kapar and political secretary to the PKR president said he is confident that voters in the traditionally Barisan Nasional (BN)-held seat are now more discerning in assessing the calibre of candidates.
“I believe the people want leaders who understand the structure of both the state and federal governments and are capable of bringing opportunities from both levels down to the grassroots.
“I came to Jeram Padang because I know there are problems here, and I am confident I can help solve them,” he told reporters after the nomination process for the Serting, Palong, Jeram Padang and Bahau state seats at the Jempol District and Land Office here today.
Manivannan, a lawyer, will face a four-cornered contest against incumbent Datuk Mohd Zaidy Abdul Kadir of Barisan Nasional (BN), R. Sri Sanjeevan of Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu), and Dayana Dal of Parti Orang Asli Malaysia (ASLI).
Meanwhile, PH’s Serting state seat candidate, Yaacob Mahmood, who has lived in Bandar Baru Serting for 43 years, is committed to championing the welfare of FELDA settlers, particularly the second generation.
He said the issue of restrictions on electricity and water connections for second-generation settlers’ homes is beginning to see a resolution after receiving serious attention from PH through Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
“Recently, the Prime Minister approved the request to allow electricity and water supply to be connected to the homes of second-generation settlers. This is a blessing and fulfils a long-standing request by the settlers’ children,” he said.
In Serting, Yaacob will face a three-cornered contest against incumbent Mohd Fairuz Mohd Isa of Perikatan Nasional (PN) and Bersatu candidate Muhammad Noraffendy Mohd Salleh @ Affendy Salleh.
PH candidate for the Palong state seat, Mohd Zahin Zinal Abidin, described his candidacy as a major responsibility.
A second-generation FELDA settler, he said issues affecting the future of the FELDA community would be at the heart of his campaign in the state election.
“Our main focus is to examine and champion critical issues affecting the second generation, particularly in the areas of housing, welfare and economic empowerment,” said Mohd Zahin, who lives in Felda Palong 8 here.
In the upcoming state election, Mohd Zahin will face incumbent Datuk Mustapha Nagoor of BN and Bersatu candidate Rebin Birham in a three-cornered contest.
Meanwhile, the Bahau state seat will see a straight fight between incumbent and Negeri Sembilan DAP vice-chairman Teo Kok Seong and BN candidate Chong Fui Ming.
The Election Commission (EC) has set July 28 for early voting and Aug 1 as polling day for the Negeri Sembilan state election.
