TFC FC To Finalise List Of Players By Mid-July - Coach
KUALA NERUS, July 10 (Bernama) -- The Terengganu FC (TFC) team, based at the Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin Stadium (SSMZA) in Gong Badak near here, will feature a complete squad before mid-July.
Head coach Mohd Nafuzi Zain said that the squad is currently in the final stages of finalising its players which includes several imports for attacking, midfield, and defensive positions.
Nafuzi, who was appointed to lead the Black and White squad on June 30th, stated that the TFC squad currently retains three import players - Garvene Kastaneer, Ehson Panjshanbe, and Shervoni Matshoev - whose contracts run until the end of this year.
"We just started training three days ago. A large number of local players from last season's squad have been retained and have been arriving in phases for training. As for import players, we still need three or four key pillars in attack, midfield, and defense.
“We have already identified them. Some are new faces, while others have played for TFC in previous seasons," he said when met during a training session at the SSMZA yesterday afternoon.
When asked about the factors that motivated him to return to helm TFC after leaving the team in 2022, Nafuzi admitted that the decision was taken as a challenge to revive TFC's reputation in the local football arena.
However, the former national Under-23 (U-23) squad coach acknowledged that the challenge this time around is heavier and tougher in terms of building a squad capable of competing consistently.
"My return this time is to challenge my own capabilities. The current team is actually already good; I just hope to elevate and improve what is necessary to face this season's competition.
"Even though I have guided TFC for three seasons before this, the challenge is not the same. Other teams have also started making their own moves and will certainly be stronger than before," he said.
